GED FAQs

GED Registration FAQs

1. When do you give the GED test?
The GED test is usually given once a month (see schedule below).

2. Where do you give the GED test?
The test is given in the Auditorium or Learning Center, on the Adult School campus.

3. How much does it cost?
The cost of the test, including the GED certificate, is $150.

4. Are there any requirements for taking the test?

A student may take the GED test if he/she meets at least one of the following requirements:
• be 18 years of age or older
• be within 60 days of turning 18
• currently or would be a member of a high school class due to graduate within 60 days
• present a letter from an armed services recruiter (17½)

5. Where do I register?
You must register for the test in the main office at the Adult School. You may not register for the GED test by phone or computer

6. When should I register?
You need to pre-register for the GED test. That means you need to sign up prior to the day of the actual test, during school office hours; this must be completed by the Thursday before each test...if there is still space available.

7. What do I need to do to register? What identification do I need?

A candidate MUST be a California resident and MUST register IN PERSON, and MUST provide one of the following forms of identification both at the time of registration and at the time of testing:

A current:
1. California driver license.
2. California identification card (can be obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles).
3.
U.S. military-issued ID card.
4. U.S. or foreign government issued ID card (such as a Matricula Consular card).

5. Passport
(U.S. or foreign government issued).
6. Post-secondary school
(college) ID card.

The identification must be current and must include name, birthdate, picture, address and signature.

In the event that California residency cannot be verified with just one of the above, proof of residency must be provided by bringing an additonal document in the form of a bank statement, utility bill or rental agreement.

For instance, if you bring in a current foreign-issued passport that has your name, photo, birthdate, and signature but not a California address, you still need to bring that passport plus, say, a utility bill showing a California address.

You must also pay the test fee. You will be required to show the same picture I.D. on the day of the test. NO REFUNDS GIVEN.
