Fees

Registration is taken in person only—there is no online registration for ESL classes; $60 registration fee per ESL class (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking) and $30 registration fee for each additional class. No refund if student stops attending class. No credit cards accepted.
GED Prep Classes
GED Prep Classes for adults who need classroom instruction to help them pass the GED Test and earn a High School Equivalency Certificate, with emphasis on students who have made significant progress in their ESL studies. Morning and evening classes are available for the Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies and Science sections of the test. Science classes will be coming soon. Students will become acquainted with the material tested on the GED, as well as test-taking skills. Conejo Valley Adult School is one of 3400 nationwide Official GED Test Centers. Details
Bridge to Your Future
Bridge-to-Your-Future classes, are designed to ensure a smooth transition from Conejo Valley Adult School to community college. These classes will be available: Pre-Algebra; Critical Reading and Writing; and Research Writing. Curricula for bridge classes are at a "college prep" level, although no college credit is given. English As Second Language (ESL)


The English As A Second Language (ESL) program is a sequential series of classes focusing on English conversation, pronunciation, listening, reading, writing, grammar, common errors, American culture and basic civics. Each student is given a placement exam before being assigned to one of these classes: Beginning Literacy, Beginning Low, Beginning High, Intermediate Low, Intermediate High, Advanced; courses in Reading, Writing, Grammar, Pronunciation, and Vocabulary & Idioms. Descriptions
Citizenship
This course gives an overiew of United States history and the structure of Federal, State, County and City government. It includes the responsibilities of citizens living under a democratic form of govenrment. It also addresses the procedure for applying for naturalization and provides basic test taking practice in preparation for the INS-approved Basic Skills Citizenship Examination. The course is designed for English learners who are functioning at an Intermediate level or higher in their English proficiency. Students do not need to be ready to apply for naturalization.

ESL & GED Computer Lab
ESL computer programs are available to practice skills learned in our ESL classes, or a GED prep software for skills practice and developing test-taking strategies. Teacher assistance is available as needed.

This class is for student preparing to take the Test of English as a Foreing Language (TOEFL) to enter an American college. It is open to students in Intermediate High or above.

Pronunciation Class
Need help with pronunciation? This class is for minimally Beginning High students who need extra help with sounds and pronunciation.

ESL English Vocabulary & Idioms

This course is designed to develop langauge proficiency in reading, listening, speaking and writing, with special emphasis on vocabulary development. The course introduces high frequency English idioms, fixed expressions, and phrasal verbs. For ESL Intermediate and higher levels.
