This program is a sequential series of classes focusing on English conversation, pronunciation, listening, reading, writing, grammar, American culture & basic civics. Students are given a placement exam before being assigned to a class.

Functional Writing
This course is designed to review and define basic writing skills including sentence structure, punctuation, basic grammar and paragraph formulation.

This course covers an overview of United States history and the structure of Federal, State, County & City government. It includes the responsibilities of citizens living under a democratic form of government. It also addresses the procedure for applying for naturalization & provides test taking practice in preparation for the INS approved Basic Skills Citizenship Examination. Intermediate English required.

TOEFL Test Prep
This class is for students preparing to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language to enter an American college. It is open to students in Intermediate High or above.

Literacy Program
The Literacy Program provides one-on–one tutoring for adults who need help in basic literary skills. One program is designed to meet the needs of English-as-a-second-language (ESL) students in reading comprehension, writing & spelling. A second program is designed to help English speakers with language processing difficulties, who read and spell below expected level. Tutoring is offered by trained volunteers for two hours per week, days or evenings in the Literacy Center. Please call (805) 497-2761 x1105. This class combines face to face instruction with access to online interactive activities that include reading, writing, speaking and listening from Burlington English.

Our Bridge Program provides adults with a smooth transition to Community College or Vocational Certification. Classes are intended for adults who seek review and support in academic subjects (Reading Writing, Math) before beginning a new course of study in a Community College or other institution of higher education.
