Machine Quilting
Making quilts from start to finish! All the basics are covered in this class. How to rotary cut. How to use your sewing machine to sew with a 1/4" seam. How to piece or applique your quilt top. Binding and machine quilting to finish your quilt will be covered, etc. Trudy gets you to the finish line. You may work work on something you've already started all projects welcome. This is an environment that supports what your doing in quilting. By setting aside this class time you will get work done. First day bring projects to stitch on and show and tell. The lab fee will cover a book and other supplies.
Instructor: Trudy Smith has a background in quilting receiving several awards for her quilting ideas. One of her quilts has travelled to Japan and Spain. She markets a game called, “Quilto” used at quilt guilds, retreats and wherever quilters gather. She is all about inspiring you to jump into the art of quilting and having fun while you learn the required skills. Bring basic sewing supplies to the first class and show and tell.

Machine Quilting
Basic techniques of machine piecing and quilting."Quick-methods"using a rotary cutter and strip sewing to make pieced quilts. Three–four different quilt patterns will be taught. Lab: open to students currently enrolled in a quilting class for working on your own projects with supervision and design input from the teacher.
Instructor: Lujean Seagal has a B.A. in Fine Arts and full time teaching credential in adult education in textiles. She enjoys leadership in S. Cal Quilt Guilds, National Quilt sociation and Conejo Valley Quilters. Her experience includes instructional lectures at over 50 quilt guilds and she has created numerous pieces for individuals and corporations.

Hand Quilting

Mat Matters
Every muscle relies on your abs, a.k.a. your core. It's your base, which leads to better balance and stability. We will also be using weights to firm up those biceps and triceps. Building up strength will help you make those day-to-day activities easier such as opening up a jar, getting in and out of your car and lifting object. Bring hand-held weights (2-5 lbs depending upon your strength). Intermediate to advanced.

Bands, Balance & Burn
If you do any of these activities, such as house cleaning, shopping, carrying groceries, tying your shoes, looking behind you while driving and navigating steps, exercise should be part of your daily routine. We will be using dyna bands, which are designed to give your muscles a good workout when stretched and pulled. We will use them for shoulder rotations, arm and leg extensions and much more. Beginner to intermediate.

Stitchery
Whether you want to knit or crochet, make scarves, hats, blankets, or sweaters, have years of experience or are just starting out, this is the class for you. Abbe teaches basic skills and advanced techniques that will give you the confidence and ability to tackle and complete the projects you’ve been wanting to make. In this class you will work on your own projects at your own pace, choosing projects you’ve already started or new ideas and patterns that Abbe will help you find. Abbe’s classes always emphasize camaraderie and teamwork, with students sharing ideas, helping each other and just having fun together. |

Instructor: Abbe Sargent has been an avid crafter, knitter, crocheter and for over 20 years, working in paper arts and floral design, and the needle arts. For the past 6 years she has taught knitting, crochet and needle arts for Ventura Unified School District Adult Education, Fabrictown USA, and the Camarillo Health Care District. Her one-on-one teaching style helps each student progress at a comfortable pace, solve problems and try new things.

Advanced Spanish
Students will receive training in speaking, understanding, reading, writing, and grammar as well as an introduction to the culture of the people who speak Spanish. Teacher’s permission is necessary to join the class after it has begun.
Instructor: Kyra Sovero grew up in Argentina and has traveled to Peru, Mexico, Spain and Ecuador. She has a master’s degree in Spanish from UCLA with teaching experience of 25 years.

Sewing Basics
Have you always wanted to learn to sew but lacked the time or patience? This class is for you. You will learn the basics of sewing, including: what tools to you need, what you need to know about fabric, how to read a simple pattern, how to stitch a simple project, how to put in a seam and a hem, special new ideas to help you get started and feel comfortable with your machine. Students will need to buy their own tools and fabrics after the first session. Bring your own sewing machine to class if you have a portable machine. If you do not have a machine, teacher will discuss options at first class.

Instructor: Jerry Ferguson, M. Arch., Ed.D., is, essentially, a student—eager to participate either as teacher or student in the conversation. As a professor, she taught Early Childhood Development; as an architect, she developed environments for very young children; as a curious adult, she studied Asian philosophies and lived in several countries. Her last formal teaching was in a maximum security jail. As a student of human behavior, she is interested in new insights concerning the plastic brain.

Instructor: Barbara Shannon is an award- winning artist and author of the multimedia textbook Exploring Art Media. For the past 40 years, she has taught art courses for Camarillo and Thousand Oaks High Schools, the Conejo Valley Adult School, and the Gate and Independent Study programs for the Conejo Valley Unified School District. Tai Chi for Health
Although Tai Chi is derived from Chinese martial arts, it is basically a form of slow meditative movements designed for relaxation, balance and health. The set of smooth, fluid exercises facilitates the flow of energy (Chi or Qi), develops mental concentration and encourages deep breathing. The aim of Tai Chi is to harmonize the mind, body and spirit. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes.

Tone & Balance
Senior Fitness
“Tone and Balance” is designed to improve one’s strength, flexibility, balance, and cardiovascular health. Some exercises are performed sitting in a chair, some standing, and some moving around. So, get ready to have fun as you become stronger, improve posture, prevent muscle and joint injuries, and become more confident with movement. This class is open to all ages as different levels and modifications are offered. Bring two hand-held weights (1-5 lbs., depending upon your strength for repetitive muscle conditioning exercises). |
