Expand your knowledge of accounting principles to include practices related to a merchandising company. Procedures specific to the recording of sales and purchases and accounting for cash will be covered as you focus on the following topics:
• Sales and purchases journals
• Purchase Discounts, Returns, Allowances
• Internal Controls for cash and bank reconciliations
• A/R and A/P subsidiary ledgers
• Cost of goods sold
• Cash journals
• Inventory and depreciation methods
Course also includes purchase and discounts, returns, allowances, internal controls for cash, and bank reconciliation.

Payroll & Reporting Procedures
Because of the constant fluctuation in government rules and regulations, it is important to keep in compliance and to stay current in this ever changing environment. Increase your payroll knowledge or refresh your current skills by employing practical application and procedures involved in generating payroll and preparing tax reports essential to business operations. Course work and in-class exercises will focus on:
• Computing wages and salaries
• Calculating payroll taxes: FICA, income tax, unemployment tax and deposits
• Journalizing payroll transactions
• Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual federal/state payroll and returns

Applied Bookkeeping
Put your knowledge of bookkeeping to practical use to prepare for an assignment as a full-charge bookkeeper for a small to medium sized company. Through class and home assignments, you will create company books, including chart of accounts, general ledger, accounts receivable ledger, accounts payable ledger, basic management reports, and make all entries and postings to those accounts for one entire accounting cycle. This course integrates all skills learned in the Bookkeeping Certificate Program, simulating an actual business to prepare you for your new bookkeeping career.

Instructor: The evening program will be taught by Diane Folsom, who holds a BS degree in Accounting. She is a business owner providing Bookkeeping and QuickBooks consulting; she teaches QuickBooks as well as Bookkeeping.
Instructor: The daytime program will be taught by Sylvia Walke who holds a BS in Accounting. She has more than15 years of experience in finance and accounting. She has worked as an accountant, an auditor, and a financial officer. |
