| Basic Bookkeeping Certificate Program |
Apply accounting principles, theory, and practice to the recording and summarizing of financial information. Through exercises simulating company records, you will learn essential terminology, functions, and procedures involved in the accounting cycle, including:
• Debit/credit principles and double entry accounting
• Assets, liabilities, equities and the balance sheet
• Revenue expense and the income statement
• Opening, closing and adjusting entries • Internal Controls for cash and bank
reconciliations
Expand your knowledge of accounting principles to include practices related to a merchandising company. Procedures specific to the recording of sales and purchases and accounting for cash will be covered as you focus on the following topics:
• Salesandpurchasesjournal
• Purchase discounts, returns, allowances
• A/R and A/P subsidiary ledgers
• Cost of goods sold
• Use of cash receipts, cash payments, purchases, sales and general journals
• Inventory and depreciation methods |

| Ruth Ann Bennington holds an MBA with a concentration in accounting and an MA in Economics. She is currently teaching undergraduate and graduate accounting and economics classes at the University of Redlands, Burbank campus in addition to being a self-employed accountant. |

Bookkeeping III
Learn accounting for depreciation,uncollectible accounts, inventory methods, calculating interest income and expense and yearend accruals. Then you will put your knowledge to practical use by completing, through class and home assignment, a company's books including general ledger, accounts receivable ledger, accounts payable ledger, management reports and make all entries and postings to those accounts for one entire accounting cycle. Completion of all three courses in the Bookkeeping Certificate Program, will prepare you for your new bookkeeping career. Course work and in-class exercises will focus on:
• Depreciation methods
• Uncollectable account calculating methods
• LIFO, FIFO and Weighted Average inventory methods
• Understanding of year end accruals
• Completion of final project

Daytime Instructor: Ruth Ann Bennington holds an MBA, with a concentration in accounting and an MA in Economics. She has 15 years of teaching experience and is currently a self-employed accountant. |

Refund/Credit Policy for General / Community Enrichment classes: • All requests must be forwarded to the Community Enrichment Coordinators. • Refunds will be made only for classes canceled by the Adult School. • Credits may be given in emergency situations only. • Credit will be held in our school database for 6 months. • There is a $10 processing fee deducted from credit amount.
