Intro to Mixed Media Art Journaling

Creative art journaling is a form of visual diary keeping. In journals, we combine color, texture, and form to create snapshots of what’s happening around and inside us. We record thoughts, emotions, and feelings. We get our fingers dirty. We give our inner child permission to play. Creativity is not a luxury. It is a direct path to reconnecting with and taking care of ourselves. In this virtual class you will learn about the basic supplies needed to create your own art journal, along with a few rules (meant to be broken) about color, composition, and layering. You will also learn how to deal with perfectionism and find joy in the creative process.

Basic supplies list: journal with mixed media weight paper, old magazines, glue/Mod Podge, acrylic paint in colors and black and white, paint brushes, sandwich wrap sheets, one stencil in design of choice, one stamp in design of choice, Archival permanent ink pad in black.

Optional but super fun: More stamps and stencils, ephemera like ribbon, glitter glue, sequins, stickers, washi-tape, old junk mail and brochures, anything you can think of!

Instructor: Tracey Yokas earned a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology and is experienced in creative healing work.
