Continuing Calligraphy

In this continued study of the beautiful art of Copperplate script we will go beyond the basic alphabet. We will work on layout and design, flourishing with the pointed pen, illumination with gold leaf and watercolor paint, reproduction of your designs and more.
Note: Beginning Copperplate is a prerequisite for this class, as letter forms will not be taught.

Instructor: Shirley LaPorte owns her own calligraphy and invitation business. She has appeared on the DIY network craft show and has had art projects and articles published in national and international magazines.

Digital Photography
Intro
This workshop will give you the essential skills needed to get started with digital photography. Students will learn about camera controls, shooting modes, file formats, resolution, memory cards, electronic flash, white balance and downloading images to your computer. Additionally, course covers composition, simple enhancement, preparation for email or website, printers, and selecting digital image-editing software. Bring your digital camera and the instruction manual.

Photography

This class is for those who have attended Digital Photography Introduction or for those familiar with the camera. This class will place more emphasis on the creative process. Topics will cover visualizing, composing, and designing better photographs. Students will learn to control and see light, both existing and flash. Bring your camera to class.

Beginning
Woodworking
This beginning hands-on class will introduce students to the proper use of basic hand and power tools in a woodshop. An in-class safety test will be required before students begin to work on projects including a pine cutting board (practice) and a quality hardwood cutting board. Students may have time at the end to work on additional projects from home.

Through stimulating creative writing, movement and mixed media art exercises we will begin the process of journaling. Find your unique voice, get inspired, and learn a variety of techniques using media that includes collage, stenciling and creating texture. Let your inner child come out to play. Inspiring Mixed Media Workshop

Leatherworking
This class will get you started creating beautiful and useful items in leather. You will learn about the different types, weights and grades of leather, leather craft tools, fasteners and closures, carving versus stamping designs, hand sewing, coloring and finishing. You will make a custom leather cellphone case by the end of the class. The skills you learn can be scaled and adapted to make a wide variety of projects.

Instructor: Howard Horwitz is an avid metalworker, woodworker and leatherworker. He specializes in a variety of leather holsters, sheathes, guitar straps, saddle bags, and is excited about passing on this quickly fading art.

Make friends with your camera and its lenses to take better pictures! Let’s face it, digital SLR cameras can be intimidating. There are so many buttons and dials, and that manual is a novella! Learn the basics about shutter speed, aperture and ISO and how they work magic in your camera. Easy techniques to photograph flowers, landscape and outdoor portraits will be presented. Bring your DSLR camera (one with interchangeable lenses), manual, and any lenses you may have.
