Greeting Cards for All Occasions

Create your own work of art for cards and more. In this hands-on class you’ll explore techniques using gold leaf, glitter, die cutting, perfect pearls, simple watercolors and special settings for photo copying. Learn the tricks of the trade for scoring, choosing papers, decorating and lining envelopes and creating cards that are a gift in themselves. All materials are provided by instructor.

Instructor: Shirley LaPorte is a member of the Society for Calligraphy and owns her own calligraphy and invitation business. She has appeared on the DIY network craft show and has had art projects and articles published in national and international magazines.

Beginning
Sewing

Have you been waiting for a reason to dust off that sewing machine? In this class you will learn basic sewing principles while completing projects like a knife edge pillow and a kimono robe. Instruction will include understanding the pattern envelope information, guidelines, pattern preparation, and cut prior to sewing. Instructor: Susan Godfrey is a certified Trained Sewing Instructor (TSI) and has been teaching all levels of sewing for the past seven years as well as continuing her training in high level sewing projects and techniques.

Mending Garments

Mending bag full? Let’s work on them together! This class is for anyone that wants to save money on replacement or repair of garments and fabric accessories. The instructor will share tips and techniques, and help guide you in your repair work. Sewing machines and some materials will be available, including commercial machines if required.

Instructor: Debbie Lee Bavaro is a parent of 5, costumer, sewer, designer, and has been an instructor for the Conejo Valley Adult School and the Parenting Program for over 15 years.

Made Easy

The many benefits of Zentangle range from stress reduction to problem solving!!! Come and learn this exciting art form! Zentangle is easy to learn and comprised of repetitive structured patterns that create beautiful images. This class will work with pencil, ink, watercolor, glitter and more to make designs for greeting cards and for framing. Basic materials provided.

General Woodworking

A hands-on class for all ability levels using a variety of hand and power tools. Beginning and Advanced students will have the opportunity for one-on-one instruction. The class can include fine furniture making and finishing. An in-class safety test and competency project will be required before students begin to work on their own projects.

Beginning Copperplate Calligraphy

Beginners! Learn the beautiful art of Copperplate script. This hand is perfect for invitations, envelopes, place cards, menus and so much more. In this 8-week course you will be introduced to the basics of this elegant hand and it's many applications. We will explore inks and ink alternatives and other fun and beautiful techniques. Please bring 1 bottle of Pelican ink and a tablet of Bianfang marker paper, the instructor will supply your pen holder and nib, guide lines and hand-outs.

Beginning Calligraphy

Come explore the broad edged pen and learn to create beautiful Italic letterforms. This course will introduce the beginner to this classic style of calligraphy with step by step instruction. This class is tailored for the beginning mosaic artist and consists of step-by-step instruction in creating your own decorative mosaic art piece. At the conclusion of this class, you’ll be able to create your own mosaics with the skills and techniques you’ve learned, and you’ll have a beautiful mosaic creation to enjoy for years. All materials will be provided.

Instructor: Jackie Mays is a freelance artist residing locally. Her work includes murals, oil and watercolor painting, and mosaic art.
