Digital Photography - Introduction
This workshop will give you the essential skills needed to get started with digital photography. Students will learn about camera controls, shooting modes, file formats, resolution, memory cards, electronic flash, white balance and downloading images to your computer. Additionally, course covers composition, simple enhancement, preparation for email or website, printers and selecting digital image-editing software.
Participants should bring their digital camera to class for picture taking. Please read the instruction manual before the first class.

Instructor: Tom Ferguson is both a commercial and fine art photographer. As a commercial photographer he shoots product, architecture and corporate portraiture. As a fine art photographer he has appeared in over 100 exhibitions nationwide.

Digital Photography - Intermediate
Wanting to improve your photography skills in time for holiday picture taking? This class is for those who have attended Digital Photography Introduction or for those very familiar with the camera. This class will place
more emphasis on the creative process. Topics will include visualizing, composing, and designing better photographs. Students will learn to control and see light, both existing and flash. Students should bring their digital camera to class. Those wishing to learn more about using software to enhance their images are encouraged to also attend Beginning Photoshop Elements.

Metalworking – Introduction
Join Thousand Oaks High School metalworking instructor Abel Magana for an exploratory program covering the basic metal working processes of sheet metal, machine tooling, foundry, and welding. This course will introduce students to the different uses of metal, the fabrication of different metals, and the wide variety of tools used. The course will also cover the use of safety, hand tools, heavy equipment and industrial procedures. There are no prerequisites for this introductory course. However, all students must have the ability to follow written and verbal instructions and must be present for the first class, in which safety will be presented.

Instructor: Abel Magana is the metal shop instructor at Thousand Oaks High School.

Calligraphy
Come join the fun learning the style of
Calligraphy known as Foundation Hand. This hand is based on the circle and is very readable and easy to learn. In order to showcase your work, we will spend one day
creating a special book cover. This course is designed for beginning and continuing students and will be taught in an informal atmosphere with emphasis on individual help.
Supplies will be provided by the instructor for a small materials fee. All you need to bring is a willingness to learn!

Instructor: Joan Hawks earned a BA in Art from UCLA and discovered calligraphy in 1978. She has studied with many renowned teachers, attended international conferences, and exhibited in juried shows. Joan has taught numerous calligraphy workshops and loves sharing her talent.

Sewing Basics

Have you always wanted to learn to sew but lacked the time or patience? This class is for you. You will learn the basics of sewing, including: what tools to you need, what you need to know about fabric, how to read a simple pattern, how to stitch a simple project, how to put in a seam and a hem, special new ideas to help you get started and feel comfortable with your machine. Students will need to buy their own tools and fabrics after the first session. Bring your own sewing machine to class if you have a portable machine. If you do not have a machine, teacher will discuss options at first class.

Instructor: Jerry Cowen is a credentialed instructor and lifelong sewing enthusiast.
