Intermediate Drawing & Painting on iPad
In this intermediate course students will learn more about drawing and painting using an iPad and the app Procreate. Covered topics will be layers, basic composition, using photo references, color and other app features. Students will bring their own iPad that is capable of running Procreate. A stylus or Apple Pencil is also recommended. Students should have taken the intro class or have knowledge of the Procreate app.

Instructor: Stella Violano is a published artist whose artwork is licensed and sold on greeting cards, garden flags and puzzles. Her work painting animals and wildlife is award winning.

The iPad as a Tool for Traditional Artists

Beginning Italic Calligraphy

Come explore the broad edged pen and learn to create beautiful Italic letterforms. This course will introduce the beginner to this classic style of calligraphy with step by step instruction. You’ll use Italic for a variety of creative projects for weddings, greeting cards, envelopes and pieces of art. Please contact sjlaporte@verizon.net for first class supply list.

Instructor: Shirley LaPorte has appeared on the DIY network craft show and has had art projects and articles published in national and international magazines. She also owns her own calligraphy and invitation business.

Digital Photography
Intro

This workshop will give you the essential skills needed to get started with digital photography. Students will learn about camera controls, shooting modes, file formats, resolution, memory cards, electronic flash, white balance and downloading images to your computer. Additionally, course covers composition, simple enhancement, preparation for email or website, printers, and selecting digital image-editing software. Bring your digital camera and the instruction manual.

Instructor: Tom Ferguson is both a commercial and fine art photographer. He has appeared in over 100 exhibitions nationwide.

This class offers exercises in creative expression, improvisation, visualization, and spontaneous writing based on your personal experiences, or not. Story structure, character and grammar will be covered also. Journal writing, class assignments, and at-home writing projects launch you on a journey of discovery. No previous experience required.

Instructor: Kathleen Galloway Rogan is a writer, stand-up comedienne, and creator of one-person shows.

Hand Building

Create special decorative and functional pottery pieces with hand building. Instruction will be given in the pinch pot, coil and slab construction techniques and students will learn how to use household objects as molds for “hump” and “slump” construction. Final projects will be bisque fired, then painted with glaze in class before a final firing to make them shiny and functional!

Instructor: Anu Subramian has been a professional artist and instructor since 2004, selling her work locally, nationally and internationally.

Intro to Film Noir:
Tough Guys &
Femmes Fatales
In this class you will study Film Noir, meaning Black Film, which was an influential type of film that had its heyday in Hollywood from 1940- 1958. Four classic films will be shown and the basic elements of Film Noir discussed: the visual style, the type of story, the characters and the mood. For those that joined us previously, this class features new titles.

Instructor: Joseph Longo has a Master’s degree in Mass Communications, has taught college-level film and literature courses, and has written about film.  He also worked as a film researcher for the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Learn how to crochet using the basic stitches or refresh your skills in this fun and relaxed class. You will make simple projects that reinforce the basic stitches, while learning to read and follow patterns with confidence. Students need 1 skein of worsted weight yarn (preferably acrylic) and a hook (size H, I or K) on the first day, or bring your work in progress for further development.

Instructor: Marcia Bucaro learned the craft from her Grandmothers, and has shown and sold her work in Ventura County for many years. She loves teaching and passing on the art of crocheting.
