Cooking with Trader Joe's

You’ve found all the unique items at your favorite store. Now, what can you do with them? Our chefs will answer your questions about TJ’s new products and help you create interesting, healthful meals using them plus seasonal ingredients. The menu will be determined by the instructor based on what is new and fresh at Trader Joe’s. Due to the popularity of this class, we will offer two sessions. The same recipes will be featured; sign up for only one of these sessions.

Instructors: Lisa Scott and T.J. Tramonto. Lisa Scott is a personal chef who has a B.S. in Food, Nutrition, and Dietetics. She has been teaching cooking classes at the adult school for 10 years. T.J. Tramonto is a graduate of Westlake Culinary Institute and a professional caterer.

A Picnic with the Birds
Making a picnic basket does not need to be a difficult task. Let Patty and Susan inspire you with some great recipes and show you how simple a picnic basket can be. We will be demonstrating a complete meal from appetizer to dessert for this class. As usual come hungry and be prepared to enjoy a fun filled evening.

Valentine's Dinner
for Two

Weekly and Monthly Meal Planning Solutions
Do you ever get home at the end of the day, stand in front of the refrigerator and wonder what you are going to feed yourself or your family for dinner? Do you then give up and go get something premade, fast food or frozen with a lot of preservatives and that may be expensive? This class will focus on how to create a meal plan for a week or for the month including shopping lists and how to maximize the food you purchase throughout the week with little to no waste. We will make Sauteed Chicken Breasts with Orzo, Tomato, Red Onion Salad and Chili Lime Chicken with a Quinoa Black Bean Salad to add to your list of favorite recipes and meal rotation.
Instructor: Stephanie Schurer graduated from the Academy of Culinary Education (ACE). She is a private chef, culinary instructor and product developer in Ventura County.

Party Treats for Cinco de Mayo
We will make delicious and zesty treats to enhance your Cinco de Mayo festivities or any other meal as well. We will make Five Layer Dip made with chips, homemade salsa and guacamole, beans, chicken and cheese, Mexican Fruit Salad, Chicken Flautas, Churro Cookies and Mango Granita.

Instructor: Sylvia Rieman has a MS in nutrition education. She worked for Cuisinart as a Consumer Advisor and has taught Food Processor classes at Let’s Get Cookin’ and elsewhere for 30 years.

Pressure Cooking, Italian Style
Learn to make a complete Italian menu using your pressure cooker. You will save time, energy, and most of all … the food will be the best you ever tasted. We will make Pasta Fagioli with Ditalini Pasta and Bormioli Beans; 15 minute Chicken Cacciatore, No stir-Risotto Milanese with Peas and for dessert, Tiramisu Bread Pudding.

Instructor: Phyllis Vaccarelli is the former owner and director of Let’s Get Cookin’ and the Westlake Culinary Institute, which she ran for 30 years. She now consults, teaches and writes for her new business, Culinary Concierge Connection. She is writing her own Pressure Cooker Cookbook.

Donuts are the comforting treats we have always loved and always will. Learn how to make donuts without a fryer filled with hot oil, easy to make, and delicious. Baked donuts that no one will ever guess are gluten free. Buttermilk, Chocolate Buttermilk and Jalapeno Cheddar will round out an evening of venturing into the sweet and savory donut experience.
