Cooking with Trader Joe's

You’ve found all the unique items at your favorite store. Now, what can you do with them? Our chefs will answer your questions about Trader Joe’s new products and help you create interesting, healthful meals using them plus seasonal ingredients. The menu will be based on what is new and fresh at Trader Joe’s. Due to the popularity of this class, we will offer two sessions. The same recipes will be featured, sign up for only one of these sessions.

Instructors: Lisa Scott and T.J. Tramonto. Lisa Scott is a personal chef who has a B.S. in Food, Nutrition, and Dietetics. She has been teaching cooking classes at the adult school for 10 years. T.J. Tramonto is a graduate of Westlake Culinary Institute and a professional caterer.

Advanced Cooking with Trader Joe's
If you have enjoyed our Cooking with Trader Joe’s classes in the past, join us for a more in-depth class using Trader Joe’s products. The instructors will use more advanced cooking techniques and recipes for those who are more interested in the art of cooking. The menu will be determined by what new ingredients are available.

Speak-Cook-Eat
the Italian Experience

In this interactive class learn how to make a delicious Italian meal and some basic Italian vocabulary, how to introduce yourself and how to order in a restaurant. We’ll do role-playing while we cook, so be prepared to have some fun speaking, cooking and eating in Italian. No previous experience necessary.

Instructor: Clarissa Fishman grew up between the U.S. and Italy where she spent summers at her grandmother’s house in northern Tuscany. Her first language is Italian. Cooking delicious Tuscan specialties with her mom, aunts and grandmother was a big part of her upbringing. She is a devout foodie and is very passionate about Italian cuisine. She has been an Italian teacher for over 25 years.

Costco is not just a big warehouse filled with jewelry, clothes and bulk food. It’s actually a great way to shop at a discount with high quality cuts of meat and vegetables. We will be teaching not only how to shop for a small family, but how to prepare for a large group gathering. This is a unique class and one not to be missed.

Instructors: Patty Limatola-Tanenbaum is a graduate from the Westlake Culinary Institute and she does blogging at MmGOod.com where she posts easy recipes with video tutorials. Susan Bernstein is an amazing cook who specializes in easy and delicious recipes. Together Patty and Susan have been doing catering jobs creating amazing dishes and events.

Create Muffin Meals that check so many culinary boxes. Cooking with the Pioneer Woman
Ree Drummond is a fairly new presence to the cooking channel network and has been growing in popularity because of her easy going attitude and feel good meals. She is a city girl that married a rancher and has learned to adapt to living the rural life by cooking to feed her family and friends with an open heart. I will prepare a sampling of her recipes and we can all enjoy life on plains - at least for one evening! No calorie counting tonight - the pioneer woman loves her butter!

Intro to Raw
Plant-Based Cuisine
Looking to incorporate more raw plant foods into your diet? If so, this un-cooking class is for you! Move beyond “salads and smoothies.” Through recipe demonstrations, witness the alchemy of transforming fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds into delicious raw nut milks, citrus-maple granola, flatbread with muhammera, BBQ kale chips, tostadas, chocolate macaroons and more. Class covers stocking a raw food pantry, equipment, sprouting, and dehydrating. Recipe packet and tastings included.

Pressure Cooking 101
Phyllis Vaccarelli has discovered that you can do most anything in a pressure cooker, faster, more efficiently and with great flavor results. She will show you how easy it is to convert your own favorite recipes to the pressure cooker and prepare them in less than half the time. Today’s pressure cookers are safe, quiet, save energy and preserve nutrients better than other methods of cooking. In this class you will learn how to cook a Butternut Squash Risotto in less than 10 minutes without stirring, a quick Split Pea soup with Ham, Shrimp with Dried Cannellini Beans and Chocolate Pot de Crème with Salted Caramel Whipped Cream for dessert.

Instructor: Phyllis Vaccarelli is the former owner and director of Let’s Get Cookin’ and the Westlake Culinary Institute, which she ran for 30 years. She now consults, teaches and writes for her new business, Culinary Concierge Connection. She is writing her own Pressure Cooker Cookbook.

Learn to Make Your Own Pasta
I have spent many years making raviolis and other pastas for my own family’s traditions as well as demonstrating in retail stores. I have had several requests to host a “how to make pasta” class so here we go! We will learn to make our own dough and how to roll, cut, dry and cook. I will also bring some family favorite recipes for meat sauce, marinara sauce, pesto sauce, Gorgonzola sauce and vodka sauce.
