Speak-Cook-Eat
the Italian Experience

In this interactive class learn how to make a delicious Italian meal and some basic Italian vocabulary, how to introduce yourself and how to order in a restaurant. We’ll do role-playing while we cook, so be prepared to have some fun speaking, cooking and eating in Italian. No previous experience necessary.

Instructor: Clarissa Fishman grew up between the U.S. and Italy where she spent summers at her grandmother’s house in northern Tuscany. Her first language is Italian. Cooking delicious Tuscan specialties with her mom, aunts and grandmother was a big part of her upbringing. She is a devout foodie and is very passionate about Italian cuisine. She has been an Italian teacher for over 25 years.

Cooking Fresh from Farmer's Market

Let’s shop together at the Farmer’s Market and learn what fresh vegetables really are! We’ll return to the Adult School kitchen and prepare fresh veggies into appetizers, soups, salads, entrees and finish with a fresh fruit dessert. Meet at the Thousand Oaks Farmer’s Market at 4:15 p.m. (at the bus shelter on Wilbur Road and W. Thousand Oaks Blvd. at the east end of the Farmer’s Market parking lot). Look for Suzanne in her chef’s jacket.

Instructor: Suzanne Landry is the author of The Passionate Vegetable and Fresh Food Matters. As a fresh food chef and wellness educator, author and lively guest lecturer for over 25 years, she has inspired many people.

Sheet Pan Suppers
Learn how to roast complete meals using only one baking sheet. Roasting with the hot dry air of an oven exposes flavors that other cooking methods tend to leave behind. We’ll create three dinners: Pork “Saltimbocca” with Roasted Onions and Potatoes, Citrus Marinated Tofu with Onions and Peppers and Roast Chicken Thighs with Fennel and Lemon. Three meals, three baking sheets and a Molten Chocolate Cake for dessert!
Instructor: Mary Avery graduated from the Oxnard Culinary/Hotel Management Program. She owns Elysian Fields, specializing in farm to table catering for intimate dinner parties.

Cooking with Trader Joes

You’ve found all the unique items at your favorite store. Now, what can you do with them? Our chefs will answer your questions about Trader Joe’s new products and help you create interesting, healthful meals using them plus seasonal ingredients.
