Learn about what it means to “detox” or cleanse the body, juicing vs. blended drinks; what foods support the body in cleansing and when is the best time to allow your body to detox. The Paleo Diet (Paleolithic)

This is also referred to as the caveman diet and is a modern nutritional plan based on the presumed ancient diet of wild plants and animals. It emphasizes fresh foods that are nutrient dense, with lots of naturally-occurring vitamins and minerals and avoids foods that are processed and less nutritional. For losing weight, reducing inflammatory disease risks, increase energy and muscle, the Paleo diet has gained popularity. We’ll prepare delicious dishes that fit the Paleo dietary plan and discuss the pros and cons.

Cooking with Trader Joes

You’ve found all the unique items at your favorite store. Now, what can you do with them? Our chefs will answer your questions about Trader Joe’s new products and help you create interesting, healthful meals using them plus seasonal ingredients. The menu will be based on what is new and fresh at Trader Joe’s. Due to the popularity of this class, we will offer two sessions. The same recipes will be featured, sign up for only one of these sessions.

Holiday Tamales
Tamales are a Mexican tradition at almost every type of celebration, most notably at Christmas. The ritual of making tamales should be a collective one, one in which eating the tamale is just as good as the time spent making them. The basics of the tamale are the same, masa on the outside and a filling on the inside. You will participate as well make some traditional flavors and discuss several creative possibilities.

Instructor: Michelle Fishman has a BS in Dietetics and is a Registered Dietician. She has a passion for cooking and enjoys teaching others how to be creative in the kitchen.
