Digital Photography - Introduction
This workshop will give you the essential skills needed to get started with digital photography. Students will learn about camera controls, shooting modes, file formats, resolution, memory cards, electronic flash, white balance and downloading images to your computer. Additionally, course covers composition, simple enhancement, preparation for email or website, printers and selecting digital image-editing software. Participants should bring their digital camera to class for picture taking. Please read the instruction manual before the first class.
Instructor: Tom Ferguson is both a commercial and fine art photographer. As a commercial photographer he shoots product, architecture and corporate portraiture. As a fine art photographer he has appeared in over 100 exhibitions nationwide.

| Digital Photography - Intermediate |
This class is for those who have attended
Digital Photography Introduction or for those
very familiar with the camera. This class will
place more emphasis on the creative process.
Topics will cover visualizing, composing, and
designing better photographs. Students will
learn to control and see light, both existing
and flash. Students should bring their digital
camera to class. Those wishing to learn more
about using software to enhance their images
are encouraged to also attend Beginning
Photoshop Elements.

Sports Photography |
Learn to take sports photographs like a pro! You will learn how to freeze the action, blur the background, correctly expose for low-light sporting events, and more. Topics include the basics of exposure, composition, lighting and editing, as well as what your
camera can and cannot do. You will complete several in-class practice sessions to help you learn how to maximize available light, and how to use the flash and proper focus techniques. Finally, you will explore a few post-processing techniques to give your sports photographs that unique look. |

Learn to use your cell phone camera like a
pro! You will learn the basics of composition,
lighting and editing, as well as what your cell
phone camera can and cannot do. You will

Mountain & Sea Photography |
As well as magnificent seascapes, Leo Carrillo
State Beach has tide pools, coastal caves and
bluffs for exploring. Giant sycamores shade
the grounds and the mountains are alive with
native plants and wildlife. This class will be
held on location and split over two separate
Saturdays – the afternoon session to allow
for “last light” and sunset opportunities
and the early session to catch the magical
morning atmosphere. Plus an opportunity to
critique work done the previous week. We
will experiment with landscapes and closeups
so please bring your full range of lenses,
tripod, etc. To get the most out of this class,
please be familiar with the basics functions
of your camera.
Instructor: Debbie Prince is formerly a Senior Photographer for the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Learn the secrets of close-up/macro
photography of flowers and the incredible
world of the very small, both indoors and out.
Topics covered include white balance, depth
of field, rules of composition, time of day,
weather, lens/zoom choice, use of natural
light, and equipment selection, including some
inexpensive tools you can make yourself.
DSLR and tripod required.
