About Ms. Alwood

Christina Alwood spent her first 23 years as a resident of Ohio earning her BA in Sociology/Psychology from Bowling Green State University.  Following graduation she worked for Xerox Corporation providing customer service and training to the automotive industry in the greater Detroit, Michigan area.

After marriage and a move to Texas, Christina had an opportunity to teach English in the public schools and discovered that education might be her calling.  Two years later while living in Puerto Rico, she began completing the required education courses and culminated her studying with an MAE in Guidance/Counseling from Inter-American University.

Relocations to Connecticut, Illinois and finally California found Christina back in the business world working in the fitness industry.  She combined teaching with management for several years.  One of the places where she taught fitness classes was Conejo Valley Adult Education.  As a result of that relationship, she was asked to help create the Professional Development Center.  She served as the Counselor and Coordinator of that department for six years.

At the same time Christina became very involved in philanthropic organizations becoming the National President of one of them.  She took a step back from her full PDC responsibilities at CVAE, but maintained a connection by planning and implementing Career Advisory Councils and Job Fairs for the school.

Five years ago Christina and Loredana Carson were asked to Co-Coordinate the Community Service Department.  Christina believes this has been a great opportunity to combine skills learned in the business world with her belief in life-long learning.  Offering classes that the community desires is a creative, diverse and challenging job, but one that can be very rewarding.

In addition to this position, travel is one of Christina’s favorite things!  She has visited nearly all 50 states and most countries in Western Europe.  Her two favorite trips were to China and Africa.
