Carol Philips has just taken up quilting, but she’s been weaving the proverbial tapestry of her career in education for 36 years. Now she has joined the administrative team at Adult Ed, where she is assisting with program development and evaluation for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges midterm review.
Carol received her B.A. in history from Occidental College and her teaching credential, Master’s degree in education, and administrative services credential from Cal Lutheran University. She taught for a total of 29 years at Manzanita Elementary, Los Cerritos, and Colina middle schools, and served as principal at Weathersfield and Westlake elementary schools for a sum of seven years.
Her accolades include the Amgen Award for Teaching Excellence, Conejo Valley Teacher of the Month, and Lions Club Principal of the Year. She enjoys working with young people and empowering them to make a difference in their lives.
She is married to Randy, a National Park ranger, and has two married daughters, Jamie and Katie, both school teachers. She has two grandchildren, Alex and Cooper, both of whom (she is proud to say) are schooled in a dual immersion classroom through which they are becoming fluent in Spanish.
Carol’s hobbies include reading, the occasional game of bridge, camping, road tripping, traveling in general, and cooking. She also volunteers at a few local elementary schools, tutoring students in reading and writing.
