This course provides the ESL student with opportunities to build on what they’ve learned in Grammar 1. This course will provide reinforcement in the use of the progressive tense and will introduce the past and future perfect and all the future tenses as well as articles, prepositional phrases, and participial phrases, comma usage, and a review of punctuation.
This course provides the ESL student with opportunities to further develop in the area of grammar. This course will provide reinforcement in the use of the present and present progressive tense as well as the simple past. An introduction will also be made of the present perfect tense. Instruction will further cover basic sentence structure, the 8 parts of speech, and the application of grammar in simple sentences and basic paragraphs. A reinforcement of levels 1 & 2 will also be provided so the student will be adequately prepared for level 3.

This class provides anl opportunity for any individual to learn more about the United States and the rights and privileges of citizenship, even if he/she is not yet ready to apply for naturalization. This teacher-directed ESL Citizenship class covers the basics of U.S. history, government, and naturalization procedures. It is designed for English learners who are functioning at an Intermediate level or higher in their English proficiency. Students do not need to be ready to apply for naturalization.
Basic Algebra, a one-year "college prep"-level course divided into two semesters, includes these topics: understanding, writing, solving, and graphing linear and quadratic equations and inequalities; systems of linear equations and inequalities; factoring; operations on polynomial and rational expressions; exponents and square roots. Subject matter is aligned to the California Dept. of Education mathematics content standards. GED Prep Math 1 & 2, each a one-year course, focus on topics included on the General Educational Development (GED) Test: Review of basic skills; exponents and square roots; order of operations; proportions; fraction-decimal-percent conversion; perimeter and area of common polygons; circumference and area of circles; volume of solids; mean, median, mode; interpreting tables, charts and graphs; using number lines; integers and algebraic expressions; linear and quadratic equations; inequalities; graphing linear equations; applying formulas; converting measurements; special triangles; using proportion in geometry; one- and multi-step word problems. The two-day SAT Prep Workshop is designed to prepare students for success on the SAT college-prep examination. The SAT consists of three sections: Critical Reading, Math and Writing.
The SAT Prep Workshop, conducted by top District teachers, will consist of specific strategies for the math, critical reading, and writing sections. A pretest, to diagnose strengths and areas for improvement, will be included. The book Cracking the SAT will be issued and used for some of the practice.
